I think I have aftermarket taillights. The top taillight has two wires in it. the bottom has one for the running lights. Why does the upper have two. I thought I only needed two wires, One for the running lights and the other for brake and stop.I'm thinking the upper has two for the brake and the other for is for the aftermarket turn signals. I'm confused.

Hello, perhaps a ground or turn signal? Do a search on Ford Barn maybe some one has same setup.

The aftermarket LED inserts I have came with two wires on the upper. One was for the brake signal in, and the second was a jumper to the lower to use the lowers for additional brightness during braking. The lower also has two, one for taillight signal and one as the jumper to the upper. If you want them to function as original then you clip that jumper. Snyder’s catalog may have an instruction showing how these work.

Alternately, as someone else suggested, the second wire may be a ground.

Photos might help us see what you are dealing with.

What number bulb is in the top socket and do you have a all red lens. It could be for an 1154 bulb which has two filaments, one for tail and one for brake. If you have a full red lens you could wire it so you could have full red tail light and a brake light on the top. If you have a standard Model A lens with the yellow glass top just wire the stop light part of the 1154 bulb.
