Leatherback windshield ?

Working on a broken glass in a '28 "leatherback" model 60 A/B W/S. Bratton's indicates this widshield frame is not available, differing from all the others. I know from past history of old rotten W/S frames, trying to separate it will probably near destroy it. Can you tell me what is different about this W/S?

I'm smart enough to know that if I could find someone who specializes in such repairs, I'd probably use the service. Meanwhile, while I pull the frame, I'm going to run an add for one in the classified in hopes of finding a good frame. Thanks, Don

I am not sure what the difference in size is, but the corners are different also. I also know the 60-A and the 60-B windshields are different from each other or I would offer to sell you one from a 60-B. Since yours is 1928 I assume it is likely the 60-A. Rod

Rowdy, I need a steel cover for passanger side door post(1929 60B) - the upper piece that slips over the upper wooden part of the door post. Do you have one you would sell? the bottom 2" of mine is rotted out.

The 60 A and B windshield frame "inset" into the upper cowl and posts instead of "overlapping" as it is with the 60C and all other Model A windshields. As a result, the frames are slightly smaller. Rowdy, it might be worthwhile to make some measurements since it has been my understanding that the the A & B windshields are the same. You might be able to help Don out. It certainly is worth a try since those frames are not reproduced. Gar Williams

I just spoke with Rich Bell, and indeed, the 60-A is '28 and early '29 leatherback while the 60-B is '29. I'm not sure of the differences in the frames, if any, as Rich notes that the difference was essentially in the color of the tops. I've got a Green Bible but I don't think it goes into W/S frames. Anyhow, back to more research, and perhaps indeed the frames are the same, both years. Thanks, hope I'll be able to use that frame!

Don I have a 28 60A and I did have a 29 60B the windshields are the same . The windshield also has unique posts for the slide arms . They are
not like the other A's .

Don, this leatherback has an aftermarket electric wiper that by gosh allows the windshield to close. I'll be going to the garage Monday morning to pull the frame and I'll be certain of it's condition, and measurements, So Rowdy, if the rest of the frame is as bad as I think it is, I'll be a candidate for that frame. This is a daily driver so being acurate for judging is not a problem.

Don (and Bill) - I have the windshield frame (and the door post cover) that you're looking for. Both are in pretty good condition. If you don't get what you need from Rowdy send me a PM.

WOW! Well folks, went down this morning and managed to get the frame out, inspite of screws swollen with rust!
When I got it home, I could not believe how easy it came apart. Been a long time since I took a frame apart and I just remember those rusty tangs & screws on the other types of frames. Even the glass came out without a real struggle. It was not the original glass.
The gasket slot is full of rust and it has some areas of surface rust and some pitting. The glass channel, top sides and bottom is good! So I've got to find a place where I can have it soda blasted.
Thanks everyone for your help!
