Leaning....leaning.....

If a car is leaning on one side especially in the rear, in this case on the driver's side, what is cause and the cure??

I read somewhere that cleaning the rear spring would help.

Any suggestions???

:) Thanking you in advance for your help.

Tom, first try loosening the U-bolts that attach the spring to the center of the cross-member. Just loosen them enough so that you can jack up the driver's side to reposition the spring more evenly in the cross-member recess. Then re-tighten.

If that doesn't work, you can get my mother-in-law to ride in the passenger seat. (You may have to put up with tobacco stains on the passenger door and running board, but your car will ride nice and level.)

Does the car have the orginal FORD spring,or does it have parrell springs. If parrell springs the frame could have rot, should see if so.May also have a shock problem.

Step on the running board on the other side and see what happens. This is normal to a degree. G.M.

When a 200 lb or better person gets out of the drivers seat the car is left leaning to the drivers side. Go stand on the running board on the passenger side and it wil be left leaning too that side. If it leans all the time look for the center bolt in the spring to be out of the square hole in the crossmember, broken spring or loose "U" bolts. G.M.

It wouldn't hurt anything to grease the heck out of the spring, then take the ol'gal out on some back roads to work in the grease. Might work, the drive would be fun anyway.

Another cause could be spring center bolt not fitting up into hole in frame, broken leaves, worn or binding shackles, bad/binding shocks. This was covered recently on the "A" board, you could try a search over there.
