James says the higher priced pump has more (better) sealed bearings and is what he recommends if you have an alternator and cinch the belt down tight enough to keep it spinning. I haven't installed mine yet, so I can't attest to anything, but it does look good on my bench. BTW, when it's installed, you can't tell it from an original. It has the original type grease fittings, but never needs greasing.

The way I see it is, no matter which design of "leakless" water pump you decide to install, somewhere down the road if that "special pump" decides to leak......you are hooped. Whereas with the original style of pump you still can add a ring or two of packing material and carry on. Don't overtighten that fan belt on either style of pump to retain longevity of packing and bearings. Lube with care on the original pump.

I have been using Jim's pumps for years and wouldn't buy them anywhere else. I buy his expensive one, put it on the car and forget about water pump problems. I put a lot of miles on a Model A each year and have been on long tours in temps over 100% and have not had a problem with his pumps. Jim has been at it for many years and this is the only Model A thing he does and he is very good at it. He is also a nice fellow to do business with.

We put his pump on the sedan before the Model A Times tour to Texas, it has worked great and this car not only has the alternator pressure but A/C pump as well. This car has over 15,000 miles with no problems with the pump.

One thing to be aware of with the top of the line pump is that rusty water can destroy the ceramic seal. So can ceramic radiator and block sealants. Its important to keep the coolant clean and use good rust inhibitor. If you want to run a funky engine with rusty tap water, then an original pump will be more tolerant. I love the Extreme Duty pump. No greasing, no greasy radiator core, no leaks, no failed bearings for over 20K miles and 5 years.

any input on the snyders leakless water pumps. there are 2 types on there one with the packing nut and the teflon seal for backup in the rear nut as well as a pressed in sealed front bearing and the other is the non packing rear nut.

thoughts opinions? i run straight distilled water and flush it time to time with a bit of rusty colored water. dont drive the car much once or twice a month
