I have a petcock that weeps a little water not serious just annoying. Any maintaince here our just replace?

You could certainly try lapping it. It make my gas shutoff valve as good as new.
I used some fine (#600?) aluminum oxide powder I had lying around, followed by toothpaste.

You can take it apart and lap the tapered cone into the seat with very fine AA lapping compound, then finish off the lapping proceedure using tooth paste of the type you would use on dentures. If your not a purist, replacement valves don't cost all that much, but you still take a chance that it will leak also. Thats part of the game.

On lapping stuff...When looking at the MSC industrial supply catalog I found out that the old familiar Clover brand (you probably have the little green two-sided can with coarse and fine) is actually available in about a dozen gradations of grit.
