leaking exhaust manifold

just put back together the exhaust manifold on my 32 model b. has a new gasket as well as gland rings. tightened everything and ran the car. exhaust leaking between manifold and engine. I have made sure all the bolts were tight. the new gasket is the standard steel clad gasket. anyone have any recommendations on how to prevent the exhaust leakage.
thanks

It has been my experience, over time, the manifold will warp, becomes pitted, and needs to be resurfaced. Once I have done that, the leakage stops. I do not use the gland rings. Gar Williams

the surface of the manifold was clean and it was the same manifold I had on the car. the only difference was that I didnt have gland rings before. could it be they are preventing the manifold from seating all the way?

That is certainly possible. Put a straightedge on the manifold parting surface and see if the holes are in perfect alignment. That is why I don't us the rings. I do use the two piece copper gaskets which work well for my cars. Gar Williams

The gland rings could be causing problems.. Its still a good idea to check both manifolds while they are off to make sure they are straight [ straight edge and feeler strips]..
