leaded gas ?

O'l Henry was a proponent of ethanol until the 18th ammendment & Volstead act came along. Folks would have been drinking the fuel before running it in their cars at least until the wood alcohol was added. After that, a bunch of folks keeled over dead by consuming what they thought was drinkable alcohol.

My father told me of winos who, during prohibition, would filter Sterno through loaves of bread in an attempt to produce a drinkable alcohol. He couldn't recall if he heard that at a hospital or at the morgue.

Was Sterno around in 1920?
Just did a search 1912, I didnt know its been around that long.

Ralph, Wow! did you read the stuff Wiki has on drinking Sterno? My father told me that stuff back in the 60's or 70's! He was a machinist in san Francisco during prohibition and later. He also ran a circuit between SF and Oakland with bathtub gin, but that's another story.

My Daddy, was a MO on motor torpedo boats in the Solomans.(He never referd to e'm as PT boats) A friend of his ,on an aircraft carrier, said the torpedo bombing squadron drank the alcohol from the torpedoes, although he wouldn't .The old man replied, that was the good stuff, pure ethonal alcohol, just drain it through a rag or a loaf of bread if you could get.

You can get a Lead fuel additive to put in your tank. I been using in all my cars and trucks before year 66. Available at almost any parts place, Walmart, etc.
