Here in socialist - ahem - progressive California, this morning I dropped off my rims for refurbishment at the power coaters. Already at lunchtime I got a call back saying they had lead paint on them, which here of course means sand blasting them has to be overseen by the Department of Health and Safety, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Upshot being, an extra $350 to sand blast my six old rims.
Question: Did rims leaving the factory have lead paint, or was lead paint commonly used for restoration work in e.g. '60s? Would be interested if anyone else has run into this traumatic environmental injury.
