I have narrowed down my needed radiator replacement to either Bergs or Brassworks, Since I have an early 28 Phaeton, and Bergs doesn't make a funnel inlet, I'm leaning toward the Brassworks. However I have concerns relative Brassworks past quality control record.

For those who have purchased a Brassworks radiator in the past year, what is your experience? I do a lot of driving in very hot SW Florida, and do mountainous tours as well. Should I go with Berg's anyway, or will I likely do OK with a Brassworks? Has their quality control improved, and are they a heavy duty radiator.

What are your concerns and what have you heard in a negative manner. I have heard absolutely nothing negative ! You say has their quality control improved. What was wrong with their quality control? Wayne

Show or go!
Show Brassworks
Go......Bergs with a thermostat Love mine and lots of mountain tours. No problems

I am very pleased with the fit, performance, and quality of my Berg radiator. I run a T-Stat and temps stay in the green all the time. I can not speak to authenticity. I do like the looks and enjoyed dealing with them.......Pete

I have a Brassworks radiator that's been fine and no problems after several years, but I don't drive it a lot. It fit great and looks very authentic. But I hear that Berg's makes a great product as well.

Do both companies make the radiator with the small channel 'tabs' at the top of the tank, that hold the hood sides when lifting the hood in the stationary open position?

I have no experience with Berg's but I have a Brassworks rad in my Phaeton. No tabs for the hood and doesn't do any better job tan the radiator I removed.
Disappointed!

I may need to replace the radiator on my 1928 Phaeton some day. If I were to do so, I would be quite specific to want the 'funnel' and the tabs for supporting the hood sides - as per original.

So if the Berg radiator does not have either, then by default, I would have to go with the more correct looking and functioning Brassworks. With that being in mind, I would like to ask the users of the Brassworks '28-'29 radiators, what they have experienced as being the radiator's 'short-comings'.

I know that every product has 'good' ones (sometimes referred to as 'Tuesday thru Thursday' products) - and every product has 'not so good' ones (sometimes referred to as 'Friday thru Monday' products). So for the purpose of this query, I am only looking for the negative 'not so good' experiences with the correct-looking/functioning Brassworks radiator of 1928-l29. I know about the 'good', but I am not well educated on the 'bad'. So please, ignore the good points (I know there are many) and focus only on the 'bad' points.

Also, if there any points of conflicting or confusing 'facts', I would like some clarification. i.e. Post #9: Tabs on Brassworks. Post #10: No tabs on Brassworks.

Having known Gery Berg and installing a number of his radiators I will say that his are a great touring radiator. Made well, he stands behind things, and has an excellent radiator. I think if you are going point you are using a good original anyway....
Brassworks I don't really have any experience with them the last 10 years or so... but know from the forums it sounds like they too have a good product. If it were mine I'd go Berg.

Use the original tanks and have it recored. You have a better chance it will fit correctly

Several posts here have suggested using your own original cores and sending them out to be 're-cored'. Is this something that can be done locally at a neighborhood Radiator Shop, or is it something that must be shipped out to a specialist?

Brassworks has the funnel and the tabs and I have been using mine since 2011.....with a thermostat...never had an overheating issue.....I believe you can get several options with more fins per inch....check out their website and ask them the tough questions......

I have the original round tube style BrassWorks in my 28. I got it in 2013 and it was gorgeous!! Of course I had to "patina" it up a bit. It works great! fits my fan shroud excellent too.The only thing I can say is the tabs that are supposed to hold the hood are not right. If you make the hood go in them they will support it. If you bump the car or hood they pop out and I have had the hood sides come down on my forearm a couple of times....gets your attention right now! That's the only problem I have with it. My gas tank is old and patina'd up so it doesn't really matter that I don't use them.
