Latest block info.

You know I am!

Yep. I believe there are at least 150 individuals interested based on the polls and emails I received in the last couple of years. How many will be depending on local builders is not clear.

Based on what I'm seeing in this first build, any competent builder will have an easy time starting fresh with these new blocks. If it gets to that point, I may be able to offer short blocks and even complete builds. The preference is to just machine and sell blocks, though.

Is this a three main block? A or B size main journals? Aluminum or iron? I know you can mix and match these specs, just wondering what the specs on your first offering will be. This is an incredible project! Thanks.

The first build is an iron 3 main A mains. I have an aluminum at heat treat that is a 3 main B tail. The next aluminum casting will be a 5 main with a B tail. Probably make iron A replacements first. But, I will be going back through emails and taking count on requests to see what to do. The internals are fixed so that 3 main blocks can be either A or B and I have interchangeable tail capability. Right now 5 mains are extra work and will be a little extra in casting and machining. Since I haven't done one yet I don't have solid pricing.

Haven't nailed down an exact price yet but I'm planning on keeping it under $2000.00.

Tod, I am holding off on having my engine rebuilt so you will have a customer when you are ready to go, I do have a question; will the block be ready for bearing shell inserts and a stock model A rotating assembly? I was an Engineman "Long time ago!" in the Navy and plan on doing my own assembly, but I do have a local machine shop that can handle whatever I can not.

The blocks will not be ready for inserts. A builder will have to machine for them and install them. Nor can I finish machine every block for all the different configurations that will be wanted.

Well, it isn't quite all together yet but almost. Video as soon as possible. Hoping for Monday. A few things pulled time away from the build so it had to sit.

I suppose it is just about time to ask again just how many people think they are interested in blocks.

I'm trying another picture format this time. The first attempt was a png. file. Looks like it has to be a jpeg. Sorry that I moved when I snapped the picture. I was leaning over the bench a little.

Hey Tod,
I think that you have got the picture thing down pat now :) !
Thanks for sharing any pictures of your work product !
Is that your new A block ? Looks very nice, even with shaky pic.
Are those main cap fasteners threaded into block..what

When responding to your statement regarding guys who want to purchase one of more of your block creations, do you want PM responses or what ?
And, do you want specifics ( i.e.- B crank/tail , etc) of request or for Model A stock block..just gereric features ?

That is indeed my block. The front and center have ARP bolts tapped deep into the block. The bolts came from a top fuel block I have in the shop.

People can just email me if they haven't before. If people want to refresh their interest they can just re-send info.

Hey Tod ,
Thanks much for informative response. Congratulations on picture posting also.

Wonder if your 'bolting system' can be used on the aluminum block or would something better/different/stronger have to be used

I'll send a PM regarding my thoughts/ wants on the 5 main alum B tailed B block.

I would not use the bolts on aluminum, just in case. I will machine aluminum blocks for stock style bolts. However, on the 5 main blocks, since there is no allowance for through-bolts (yet) I would just put deeply threaded studs.

For those people who are going to get a 5 mains block from Tod, has anyone chased down a source for a crank??

cranks are available from different sources.
The only problem I can see is the cost. I am confident that Tod could make a cast iron crank 5 bearings design that would work well.
If you are thinking about racing applications, better use a billet and the best rods available.

Good question, I was wondering about that too.

That makes at least THREE of us then :) !
On same subject, I saw a picture(s) of a 5 main crank in a T engine up in Canada, where a guy had built several powerful T engines. The crank that I saw in the picture was beautifully made with knife edging and full counter weights. I ask on the Fordbarn T section, if anyone there could give information on this guy...no response. I saw the picture of the T engine again, over on the Traditional Rod Banger site about a month or two ago.

Anyone here that knows how to navigate that site, maybe could locate the picture/guys name and the discussion that was had
Also, I think that John Neilson , member here, would have some input/stats on where he gets his 5 main cranks from. We all suspect that such crank will be expensive. But , someone here may come onto a crank maker who would give US a deal for bulk order ??

Are you going to install two, or four bolt mains in your five cap block? Are you going to helicoil the threads in your aluminum block?
