Need some help on this one. I know the prefix for the '49 merc is 9CM, and the '50 0CM, what is it for the '51, '52 & '53 ? I have an OD trans I need to get a fix on. Thank you Ford barn brain trust.

Per VanPelt, 1951 was 1CM. Doesn't list the prefix for 52 or 53, but would guess 2CM & 3CM.

Edit: Looks like they changed to a different numbering system in 52.

Serial Nos.: 52LP10001M to 52WA19422M, 52ME10001M to 52ME65500M, 52LA10001M to 52LA38763M, 52SL10001M to 52SL86300M

Serial Nos.: 53WA10001M to 53WA45383M, 53ME10001M & up, 53LA10001M to 53LA50946M, 53SL10001M to 53SL14285M

Confusing because this source also list 1951 numbers as:

Serial Nos.: 51DA10001M to 51DA67910M, 51ME10001M to 51ME103515M, 51LA10001M to 51LA46772M, 51SL10001M to 51SL127830M

Really is confusing, never heard of OD transmissions having 'serial numbers'

Yep, think we were looking for the part number prefix, but that is all I could come up with. Hopefully the 1CM and MA will help, there just doesn't seem to be much on these. Someone should know the prefix for 53 (if it is different from 52). On the earlier years the part number prefix was somewhat similar (some years) to the prefix of the serial numbers, but looks like that changed.
