Landeau iron center knob

The center knob for Cabriolet Irons is different than the outer knobs, they do not screw on..rather have a connector shaft that is pressed ? between them..my question is: are these covers/knobs pressed to shat between them or glued in some mannor..and are these covers/knobs polished to match the outer covers/knobs...the ones I have are replacement from Bob Johnson..and are not chromed like outer knobs..do I polish them??

The center of the landaus are covered by 2 brass (steel if you have repro) pieces. They have a steel pin that I believe has serrations that has a very snug fit. The brass piece has a shoulder that will fit snug on the opening of the rivet that holds the landau together.

In the picture the ones on the right are the originals and the left are the steel repros.

I have the broken originals and the repro ones..if they are steel won't they rust or are they expecting I chrome them?? If they are stainless I can polish them to look like chrome?? Will go put magnet to see?? Thanks for help..

Steel will need to be chromed.

I doubt they are stainless and it is likely that stainless will not look right against the chrome.

When sending them to be chromed they have to be careful on the OD of the raised portion on the back. It can be made too big to fit in the hole.
