I started my car today , took it out for a 15 min run ,
The car run ok but not like last time . The car did not back fire or ping however I did notice a lack of power. it was running great 5 days ago (I was out of town)

Any thoughts , thanks in advance still learning here .

Hi Buddy,

Car runs great -- 5 days later, car does not run great -- what is wrong?

A vintage mechanic without computers or electronic engine analysis would have asked this question:

"Between the time it was parked while running great, & 5 days later when it does not run great, tell me "everything" that you did you do to the car?"

Usually the answer lies in something insignificant that was done to the car.

Hope this helps.

Any chance rodents built a nest in the muffler?

A vacuum gauge will tell a lot. Good vacuum at idle, but quite a drop at speed could be a plugged exhaust.

I can't think of anything else that could just happen over 5 days, if it idles OK.

Good thinking Tom -- rodents ?

Hi Buddy,

Also, any chance of larger (2) legged rodents like kids playing in the car, &:

A. Turning the inside carburetor adjustment GAV valve totally closed, or opened more; or,

B. Pulling the emergency brake handle back that you may never have touched.

C. Or something similar.

Please join the crowd -- many times, if one owns a Model A long enough, one finds that all Model A owners feel stupid when we later find out that a "major" problem was fixed by something so "simple".

Please keep letting us know what you find -- none of us know it all -- & we all learn from Model A experiences of others.

I did see a distributor cam slip once because the screw didn't really tighten it enough. If you grab the rotor and try turning it, you shouldn't be able to make it slip on the shaft. The only movement should be the freeplay in the drive gears and tangs on the distributor shaft and lower shaft.
