Kroil substitute...Iso-Heet substitute?

"Also I get a kick out of the one gallon PRE-mixed anti-freeze. All you are buying is a half gallon of anti-freeze with a half gallon of WATER but your paying preemo $$for that half gallon of anti-freeze and the water has no value. Are people too stupid today to figure that one out?? They can't cut it themselves at home at 50/50?"

I've always gotten a kick out of that one also. The first time I saw that a few years ago, my first thought was "WHAT A WAY TO SCAM THE PUBLIC" and I hope no one is dumb enough to fall for it, but it must be selling because I still see it on the shelves. $8.00 for 1/2 gallon of antifreeze the other day.

Sometimes when you are on the road and need to top-up, the 50/50 mix is very convenient.

And sometimes the convenience is worth the extra cost.

When I can, I buy full-strength anti freeze and mix at home.

Some people have very "hard" water or have water with a lot of iron. Those in that situation actually should use either the premix or buy bottled water. I have seen a lot of clogged radiators and bad thermostats because of lime scale and rust.

The isopropyl alcohol in the drug store is 90% at best, the other 10% is water. The iso stuff sold as a gasoline deicer is anhydrous (NO water). That makes it much more expensive to produce and far superior as a gasoline deicer.

I buy the expensive 50/50 pre-mix for my modern cars, it cost about 75% whatever the 100% antifreeze is selling for. I care more about the demineralized water content and the 'no thinking' ability to leave an unopened gallon in the wife's car. For my A's it's Lo-tox (Sierra) + 50% distilled, the water is $3.20 a gallon.

We use LoTox or Sierra in all thew Model a' we have worked on. Better for the environment, and better for any animals that may contact a drip from the cooling system.

Is pre mix distilled water?

I believe the water in pre-mix is demineralized by commercial reverse osmosis equipment. RO is faster, higher throughput, more energy efficient than either steam or vacuum distillation. Higher grades of window-washer juice (not the 99c junk) also use RO water, as you get no water spots when over-splashes dry up.
