Kiwi l-100 vs Schneider s-100 lash difference

I currently have the kiwi l-100 set to manufacture specs for lash. Even after warming up it ticks. I have checked it 3 time over the last year. I notice the Schneider s-100 cam has a lot tight lash. .010 and .012. I can’t see any harm in going tighter to remove some noise. Should there be any tappet noise once warmed up? This is my first solid lifter engine.

There will be more noise than with a hydraulic setup since hydraulics are usually adjusted to 0 lash. You might try a thou or 2 tighter but be careful, too tight causes burnt valves. Enjoy the music! ;)

This was one of the reasons that manufacturers went to hydraulic followers. It reduces the noise levels and it make further adjustment unnecessary. Most of the old Y-blocks have that light valve train sound as a characteristic. It grows on you after a while. If it gets too loud then you know it needs adjustment. Without listening to it, I can't tell if it sounds normal or not. All I can say is if it's loud or only has one loud one while the others are relatively quiet then it likely does have some kind of lash problem. Some of the Y-blocks had problems with top end oiling too.

I will pull the intake and tighten them up. The Bob drake lifter I got are the biggest pieces of sh*t I have ever bought. The first set were so loose I could turn them by hand. The second set are so tight I had to adjust them outside the block as I needed a long wrench.

ModelTbucket,
You'll probably get more folks chiming in with helpful info if you weren't in the Late V8 (1954+) discussion forum. :)
