King pins for Model AA truck

I have thought of one more question; I understand that with the model A, the thrust bearing goes on top of the spindle and it uses a felt washer and retainer on the bottom. But with the Model AA the thrust bearing is on the bottom. So if that is correct, does the Model AA king pin still even use a felt washer and felt retainer?

I just sold a set of AA kingpins. Here's what the kit looked like:

Even though the above are labeled "BB" they were used for the AA as well. Here's the description of the kit from the parts catalog.

Earlier Parts Listings (concurrent with the Model A) show "different numbers" for the (at least) three different applications of Spindle Bolts (Kingpins) I.e. Passenger, 28-29 Commercial, 30-31 Commercial. This besides the left-right sequential numbering convention.

The Ford "Green Book" (Chassis Parts & Accessories 1928-1948) shows TWO Spindle Bolts with cars apparently A-3115-C (A-3116-C) "Pass, Comm" with years 28-31, and "Trucks" 30-34 specified as BB-3115, BB-3116, the Model B designation identifying the "improved" (i.e. "heavier") later trucks.

Ford apparently was "consolidating" their component numbering/inventory system.

So yes, the 1928-29 AA trucks used the same spindle bolt as cars, while the 30-31 and beyond AA trucks used the upgraded "BB" design.

Ford started the 28 AA trucks out with the same front end as the car. By September of 1928 various parts got "upgraded" (recall) mostly dealing with the spindles and wheel bearings. The base axle did not change.

At least until probably October 1929 with the upgrade of most everything else to Borg-Warner "BB type" moving components.

Neil Wilson hasn't addressed this yet at aafords.com but is promised.

Some earlier information shown in "The Truck Book" and "Supplement AA Trucks" is decidedly in error.
