King Pin Retaining Bolts

I thought I read somewhere that the axle could properly be installed either way, but I certainly could be wrong.

That is what I have read here on the Fordbarn going back a number of years. Can anybody provide documentation as to the fact of a tapered bore in the axle?

I could see no material difference in my AA axles front to back. I replaced a bent one and both had straight holes for locking pins.
