Key locked ignition switch

Goodmorning,

What year did Ford start producing and releasing a key locked ignition switch?

Thanks, Mose Nowland (Racemo0

My '15 doesn't have a key per se. It's more like a removeable lever. The switch isn't locked by this at all. You could rotate it with a screwdriver if need be. I don't know when the actual locking switches with the numbered keys came into use.

1909 thru 1913 had a wooden coil box with switch and key on the front that were made by suppliers to Ford, 1914 thru 1918 Ford produced a switch on the front of a steel coil box with what has been described as a "removable lever", starting in 1919 Ford produced what we more readily recognize as a key in a " tumbler" ignition switch that was on an instrument panel. Your original question was not as simple and straight forward as you probably thought. Some of this is a matter of semantics, always difficult!
