I believe that 3rd gear on the Model A transmission is 1:1 with a tight coupling between input and output shafts - in other words, no gearing involved. So not possible to regear 3rd gear. That’s what the overdrives are for.

Or change out the ring and pinion in the differential.

Only one set of gears for the model A transmission. There are several sets of ring & pinion ratios. This would be a way to make a change. The other is to change the type of transmission. The Ford/Tremec T170 RTS transmissions were popular till they started to get harder to find. They are a 4-speed with an OD as the final gear. Ford &Tremec no longer suport them.

Anything is possible but it would be VERY expensive and I have never heard on anyone doing it. Just change the gears in the rear end.

The Mitchell 3 speed synchro trans has a taller 1st and 2nd ---- one tooth each I believe but no hope for 3rd. So you can wind up 1st and 2nd a bit more.

thank you all for the info. was just wondering and changing the rear makes sense.

of course Im aware of the mitchell, etc. just have always wondered.
