Just about Done

I am new to this forum, of course I discover FB at the very end. I just wanted to share my latest project. This was a 1931 pickup by father bought back in 1972, with the plan of restoring it. Of course life got in the way. Kids (me) moving, and the years passed and the A sat in my grandfathers barn. In 2010, I talked my dad into letting me take it to get it running, 1y 8m & 20 day later it registered and insured and ready for road testing.
I did almost everything, sandbalsted frame, rebuild ******, rear end, brakes. Found an engine on Craigslist, thought we would have to have it re babbitt, but turns out the bearing were in great condition. Almost everything else in the engine is new or reground.
We decided to keep the farm fresh look. The aged patina that the truck has is not something that I just want to through away. It has, in places what I believe to be original paint. The truck was last registered in Ca. in 1956. I believe it was a local orchard farmers farm truck until it through a wrist pin and was never repaired until 55 years later.

Their are more pick in my album

Way to go! You've done a lot of work! The pick up's are so much fun when they're "farm fresh" Keep us all posted in future.

Great looking truck. Your story is similar to mine. My huckster is a 1929 pickup turned Huckster which had sat in our barn for close to 40 years because, like you, family, job and other things more important at the time. Had to become a huckster because I messed up the pickup body in the 50's and had to find a body to replace it.

Have fun with your "barn find".

Do not ever touch that paint!! I am keeping my coupe in as is condition and I have actually had people from the Henry Ford Museum tell me to leave it as original. I coat is about twice a year in oil to stop whatever rust is there. It has worked after three years, in fact some places look better. Nice truck!

Do you wash it off, or leave it on for a period of time?

I do not wash it off, I wipe it down once and awhile with brake cleaner before putting on a new coat. Plus, alot of it just gets soaked up or disapears after awhile.

Love that patina look. You and the truck would be most welcome at any Capitol A's meeting. The meetings are held the first Friday of the month at the Veterans Hall in Carmichael. Visit our website.

Sounds like yours and mine have a similar story. Mine was used in SoCals orange groves for a number of years until we picked it up in the mid 70's. With the associated battle damage and farmer fixes/mods. Like you I wouldn't change a thing. Yours looks great. I'll post pics of mine once I get it running again, hopefully in a couple months.
