When the cabs were changed to the later style in around June 1930 did they go to round speedos at the same time ? I have seen the oval speedos in these cabs but guessed maybe a rusty tank changed out later .

John in Suffolk County England . dull weather today ,no Mr Sunshine !!!

Ive always heard that the trucks "used up" the old parts for the most part until they were gone when running changes were made. Do not know that for fact but does sound like something that Henery would have done to not waste the parts.
I'm sure that with the commercial nature of most trucks and AA trucks the owners were not too worried about the timeline of running changes and just happy to have a new truck
But also over the 90 or so years alot of stuff gets changed to keep them on the road

I did a lot of reading on the Ford assembly procedures at the time,it was extremely precise.Bins were filled with X amount of parts,X amount of hardware, never less or more than the vehicles coming down the line.It looks impossible for a truck to come down the line and the workers say, here comes a truck, lets use up this tank, speedo, speedo cable, speedo drive, and popout switch, just because it was a truck.I don't know if there was any overlap between the new and old style cabs, but reading on the logistics of the assembly line it looks like when a change was made it was a clear line. One day the old part and the next day the new part.Existing old parts went for service parts.Dealers needed those parts for repairs.

Keith, what you say makes sence, but thinking about it I don't think that I have ever see any pictures of the assembly line with any trucks mixed in the line up. Defiantly no AA mixed in.
Different line ? deadacated days for certan body styles ?
I know that modern lines share different models at different times like the new Bronco and the Ranger are built on the same line just at different times

Here you go Phil.

I know of that photo, but I was told it is a suspected publicity photo. No workers, too clean, and out of synch for an assembly line. There are photos of pickups that are on the assembly line with cars though. One that comes to mind is in the book,The Model A Ford As Henry built it.There is a picture in there of a 30/31 style cab on the assembly line with the cars.I lost my book when the house burned,so I can't check to see it it was an A or AA.
