Jump box

If you have a 6v to 12v step up converter for your GPS or phone charger, ensure it is isolated when you connect any 12v device (jumper, 12v battery, etc) to your 6v battery. You will damage the converter, possibly letting all the smoke out of a few wires in the process.

When I read the posts on this forum that have something to do with electrical connections it seems there is a continuous problem with identifying polarity. It is supprising to see the many barners that have difficulty with plus(+) and minus(-). Maybe someone can come up with a foolproof method that can help solve this problem.

If you look at the battery, the positive post is always larger than the negitive post.

A higher amp capacity jump box is better because it can incur significant degradation and still start the car. It might have been sitting in your trunk for a while, or it might be a very cold day, or you might have tried to start it a few times already but forgotten to turn the gas on.

Jay Jay that's a good one. The big CAT I will jump with my neighbors K car. Lol. I do want to get one for the Model A and also, I have a 52 Ford custom line 2 dr sedan with 6-volt positive ground with a flathead V8. Any model suggestions from anyone? Thanks, Tom...

There are some available on the river store that are jump box plus air compressor rolled into one unit. I have a separate battery powered air compressor that I carry and use every couple of days on long tours. I would seriously consider a combo unit if I was doing it again from scratch, only one item in the toolbox that way. Be sure you get one that can also double as a usb source to charge your phone.

If all you want is the jump box capability, I’ve been happy with my NOCO GB-40. It’s done everything I’ve asked of it, and I top off the charge about every three months. At the time I bought it it was mid-range, seems like there are higher capacity units available now for not a lot more money. (Even something called the “AstroAI”, country of origin: don’t ask.)

I have a small battery booster (I can't tell you what brand it is) that I carry in my Town Sedan. It can be recharged off USB so I can plug it in to the car to recharge. My car is 12v.
