Judging standard history….

My car has been in the family since the early 1970’s. In going through the filing cabinets at my father-in-law’s house helping to sort things out for him, the family has at times stumbled into file folders marked Model A. One of the things just unearthed was a MARC / MAFCA Judging Standard from 1974. It was interesting comparing it to the current one. The 1974 do***ent was a total of 26 pages with very few diagrams and photos. Compared to the current color version just released it is shocking how far we have come in +50 years in the hobby.

Re: Judging standard history….

@KMBeers - did you notice your post was censored? The word with the *** - bet that wasn't how you entered it.

Re: Judging standard history….

It would be interesting to see how much of that edition was deemed inaccurate by what the latest version says.

Re: Judging standard history….

Bogiediver, I did notice, first time for me. Not sure what was the issue was with the word do***ent….

Re: Judging standard history….

@kmbeers- I found one of those in my dad's files for his car. It interesting to go through it considering how detailed everything is now.

Re: Judging standard history….

Ayers1, that is what I am going to do this winter. I took a quick look through and there are some things that are definitely the same now as was in 1974. Going to be a fun project.

IMG_0344.jpgMarch 1969 MARC standards.
23 pages, fairly vague. Two comments stand out.
No chrome plating of engine components, no metallic paint colors,
though it does list color schemes and upholstery types

Re: Judging standard history….

It would be cool if somebody would scan the original judging standards And make them available!!!
I don't think MAFCA or MARC would complain but the copyrights are still in effect. I think using certain sections vs the newest edition would be educational as to how far they have come.

Re: Judging standard history….

I have a copy of the original draft of the judging standards. At the time the standards were being developed, I did some artwork for the standards at the request of Jerry Wilhelm.

Uhh, I just upgraded to this version of the judging standards. Are you saying that’s out of date? It had my car on it, I figured it had to be correct.

Re: Judging standard history….

In the early 70's,while in high school I was given a set of standards that were xeroxed. Some helpful older A guys gave them to me,and I suspected they had made copies to give me.Joining a national club and buying things like that while going to school, and making $1.65 per hour part time was out of the question.I believe I lost them when my house burned, but I am still finding A paperwork in my garage cabinets,so I may still have them around.
