Jc Whitney model A cam

At least in the early '70's, the retail store on State St was Warshawsky's. The legend was that JC Whitney was a name picked to be tamer for the rest of the country.

I haven't seen a Hemmings magazine in quite a long time. Not sure if this is true or
not but somebody told me that they barely have any Model A's for sale in it.

The catalog covers were identical - outside of the name.

The lift of a cam can be easily measured with the cam out of the engine. The lift is the difference between the maximum diameter, at the toe, and the minimum diameter, at the base circle.

Which can be practically translated as: measure the maximum distance to the top of the lobe. Rotate the micrometer (or ghe camshaft) 90 degrees and measure the minimum distance. This is a bit of a challenge to do inside the engine, especially with the lifters installed, but it can be done.

If the cam is still in the engine and the valve train assembled, it's a bit easier (and arguably more performance-based) to measure the valve lift with a dial indicator, then add the valve clearance. That gives you lobe lift. You can only do this if the valve springs are installed!
