The KRW tool cabinet was dropped off about an hour ago. I am very pleased with it. Thanks for the heads up Vince. So far I have carefully sanded 7 likely spots where the logo might have been and found nothing. I dbl checked the KRW tool website and this logo is definately not there.I am open to suggestions of other likely spots it might have been as I would like to preserve it if possible. Interesting to me is the origianl color looks to have been very close to Andalusite Blue instead of the darker shade of Machine Grey I was expecting. Rod :):):)

Rowdy,

Are you positive it is a KRW tool cabinet made in the USA and not a "repop" made in China?

Maybe sombody elses remake or copy?

Hope what you have is the real deal...what a find and maybe KRW made different styles...hope so.

Pluck

First order of bussiness is to strip off the poor repaints and paint it the proper color. May be hard to do with modern paints. Then will put the tools away. Having to be creative to find room in the shop for this.

Catalog photo of your KRW cabinet.....the Euro version

Here in Europe, K.R. Wilson (KRW) tools were made and sold under the VLC name (VLC = Van Löwener Copenhagen). From what I can tell, VLC tools are exactly the same as the US KRW tools....just with the VLC logo vice the KRW logo.

Anyway, attached is a scan from one of the pages in the VLC catalog titled "Ford-Service Station Equipment Model T, TT, A, AA, AF and Fordson Tractor." Note that Rowdy's tool cabinet is listed as VLC No. A 351. The drawing clearly shows the VLC logo along the bottom of the cabinet....so I would guess that the KRW logo should be in the same place on Rowdy's cabinet.

SCAN0053.jpg

The text written across the bottom states: "V.L.C. TOOL CABINET FOR MODEL "A" NO A 351".

Hope that helps.

Fordially,
Brad in Germany

That was the first place I looked as the reprint of the 30-31 catalog shows it there. No pic's on the KRW tools website of the cabinet with the doors closed and it is not on the toe board in that pic either. Sanded several more places this morning. still no logo. So I am guessing it is not there at this point and may become abit more aggressive with the paint removal later today as I really hate the cracked and peeling white paint on it. Rod

Down to the original color in most places. No sign of a remaining logo, sanded 37 places before deciding the logo was no longer there. Then broke out the heat gun and got rid of 80% of the white and grey paint. Rod

Re: Catalog photo of your KRW cabinet.....the Euro version

Hi Brad, I have a VLC catalogue for 1933. Mine is VL Churchill & Co LTD, Walnut Tree Walk Kennington, London. The forward on the inside cover is endorsed by Ford Motor Company.

Catalogue is 104 pages and covers Model A and 32 Fords with lots of illustrations of 30/31 Model A's and V8's. I'd always wondered if it was the European version of KR Wilson

Could the lower panel of your cabinet possibly been replaced? I noticed in the advertisement pic the lower panel has a scallop in the center giving the appearance of legs. Just a thought , maybe that's where the missing logo went.
James.

Our local machine shop Belcher Engineering still uses the Copenhagen VLC equipment for pouring and boring mains and ends etc etc. I had always wondered if they were a licensed copy of KRW . The Churchill equipment would have been the same but never seen any .

Rowdy's cabinet is a A 341

forever4,

The cabinet in your picture is a different cabinet than the one Rowdy has. Perhaps the one in your 1927 catalog is the correct one? (Note the configuration of the different tool compartments and brackets, especially on the inside of the right door.)

The one I posted is from a VLC catalog dated March 1930.

Looking at the tool hooks and brackets, Rowdy's is cabinet number A 351 .

The steel cabinet would be a nice find aslo, maybe some day I will run across one. Before I knew anything about KRW tools I seen several of the wood style sell at auctions. I can also remeber several auctions in the mid 80's that had alot of the tools that went cheap as no one really knew what they were for. I was more into buying parts at that time being in Highschool and always short on cash and payed little attention. If only I would have known. Rod

Repaint finally finished. Looks better than I thought it would. Paint color is close, but not exact. Put afew tools away, still need to bring the rest of them home from the farm in a couple of weeks. Rod
