It's a fact

A better ground isn't always the answer. With !2 volt cables on a 6 volt system you are still gonna turn the engine over slow.
So many cables have been replced with the too small 12 volt type. Not good.
You gotta have a size #1 or larger negative cable, starter cable and ground or the 6 volt battery will never turn it as fast as it should.
I have converted many 8 and 12 volt systems back to 6 volt with the amazment of the owner after putting in size 1 or 0 cables.. I'm doing a model A this friday. It is 8 volts and I'm betting the cables are 12 volt because he wants me to put in an alternator.
If you want a modern radio, or any radio, I suggest you go to 12 volts. Otherwise... na!

Have you heard a 6 Volt starter spin on 12 Volts? :D

Mine is spinning just fine on 6 as well! Tail lights are good & brite, cant wait to get the headlights in. (Every day is a new adventure)[/QUOTe

A suggestion for your headlights. Eliminate the Ford headlight ground to the bucket and attached a #10 wire from the bulb's ground directly to the frame. I did this on my 40 tonner and it made the headlights significantly brighter.

Thanks! I will plan on grounding them with the horns :D

I failed to mention which I did in other posts I use 2/0 cables on 6 volt cars or you get the lose results as mentioned in my last post. G.M.

Yeah I could never understand why people wasted money and time switching over to twelve volts. OR why the hell anyone puts an alternator on a flathead . If six volts worked for Henry why change things?
