Is this a 49 Ford?

My Dad says this was a 1949 Ford that he purchased new and drove across the country. The trouble is I don't see any other pictures of 49 Fords with the side fender exhaust ports. Is this really a 49? Was that optional trim?

From the picture, it has to bed a 49 or 50. If he says it was a 49 it probably is. As far as the side trim, i am sure someone added that. Probably from a Buick. Marv

I thought the same. The port holes look like Ventiports that came out in 49 for Buick. My dad said he just bought the car new at the dealer and did nothing to it. Of course this was 1949 and it was a long time ago. His memory could have faded.

door handles are "pull" type rather than push button and gas cap is out on fender rather than under door higher up on fender.... its a 49

Yep, 49 by the exposed fuel cap and the pull type door handles, 1950 had the fuel door and the push button door handles.

yea its a 49. The grille doesn't extend far out on the sides, the visible gas cap. generally looks pretty much like mine, but with no portholes and them fancy fender decorations.

Thank you everyone. Dad says he doesn't remember but he could have added the exhaust ports. I'll bet he did. He does remember adding the spotlight.

The car was driven to California where he sold it, then bought a ticket on a DC3 and flew back to Pennsylvania. He recalls seeing a 49 in a movie with a spotlight sometime later and always wondered if it were the same car. Of course he doesn't remember the name of the movie.

wide -wides trim rings and original hubcaps..lol..the car looks period correct for a 49 and i'll bet the dealer installed the buick ports, thankyou for sharing this picture!
