Is a 1928 head different

Is a 1928 model a head different from and or incompatible with other years? I am looking at buying a head from a friend and he suggested we be sure first.

Thanks
Mark

The early 1928 head does not have the center water passage way between cylinders 2 and 3, also some have a boss where the screw that holds the distributor. Other than these two items there is no difference.
It might be well to check if the head might have been surfaced too much over the years which could cause the pistons to hit the head?

The early head also has a very slight compression increase, but probably not noticeable in the power felt. Any Model A head will fit any year Model A.

Almost half the heads made didn't have the center coolant hole, so don't worry about not having one. That center hole is where many heads have a small crack. Most times that small crack won't bother anything though.
