And the summer of 36 was also a record breaker. It was so HOT that people were sleeping on the roof.

Has anyone seen the commercial where a Man LABORIOUSLY digs out & scrapes his car, clicks his remote & the tail lights FLASH, on the car in FRONT of his?

When I lived in Iowa a number of the "old timers" told me there was a drought the summer of 1936. Even in counties that never had a crop failure they came very close. With the development of hybrid seeds lack of rain wasn't as critical. Then came a winter from hell!

My parents were married on July 25,1936. The temp was 117*F in Atlantic, IA/No AC. Hottest on record to be followed by coldest winter on record. This all occurred before we figured out that this was all their own fault because of the free market prosperity they enjoyed in the dust bowl days of the 30's. O' wait, am I being sarcastic? Sorry.

Same in southern Minnesota. During the '50's my dad and uncles were still talking about it.

WOW my folks always talked about that one, here in Illinois worst on record.

Our local Interurban train got stuck in a snow drift that winter, it was a one car gas-electric job. It takes a lot to get a train stuck! Saw a documentary once about a train that got snowed in near Donner's Pass, in the early 1950's. The dining car perhaps was serving 'Human Beef' instead of the usual 'Hunan Beef' on the Chinese food fare:eek::eek::eek: No, wasn't that extreme just kidding.

Don't quit your first job because you will starve as a comedian! Wayne.
