29Cabriolet

Hi:
Just joined the forum today and logging on to say hello! Looking forward to sharing advice, hints and stories about old Fords
So to kick it off for me I confess to being a novice. I have recently come into possession of, as you can guess, a 29 Cabriolet. It was built by my Dad (along with a couple others) over 30 years ago. He had driven it ever since up until just a couple years ago. At 93, he doesn't drive much anymore. So he's passed the baton and I've become the owner and soon-to-be re-restorer. The first task at hand is a leaky water pump. Oh but wait, this motor is not from an A. Water pump has 3 bolts. It's a '32 B. I ordered a new one from MAC in Lockport, but when received I found that the shaft is too long and must be shortened. Mac's said yeah other customers complained about that too. Just file it down. Well I work in a manufacturing company with access to a machine shop. Just received the pump today and got the machine shop lined up for the task. With a little bit of luck could be installed and leakless by the weekend!

Welcome to the barn!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me know if you need to get rid of the old core. I thinking of using a different head on mine and a 3 bolt pump is one of these pieces I need to complete my puzzle.

love that MAC's !
they are right on it...just rework it to fit your needs, yes, we've had other complaints, but we continue to sell the same out of spec part. Let the paying customer modify it so it will fit. wow.
As the responder above states...you might want to consider Brattons or Snyders, they are both quality oriented suppliers of parts that fit and do not need to be re-machined to fit your application.
>> and they answer the phone!

Welcome - you will find lots of nice people here that are willing to help. It's nice that you still have your dad for advice too. Everybody love pictures, so if you get a chance, let's see what you are doing. Bill

Welcome! I know you will be glad a forum such as this is avail. I use it frequently and I am amazed at how helpful most Model a owners on this site are.

Welcome!

You may have an A motor with a B head. Is there a fuel pump?

I've found that most of the parts suppliers are very helpful and honest IF YOU ASK THEM UP FRONT. Otherwise, they'll quietly take your money for junk. Several years ago I wrote up a long version of my Model A story subtitled "Nothing Fits".

Welcome and we are here to help in your restoration.

Do you have any books yet?

May I suggest, Les Andrews vol I

and the national clubs restoration and judging manuals as a start.

Welcome! I am also working on a '29 cabriolet that I have had since the late 1950s. Lots of help is available here.

Welcome! You're very lucky that your Dad can probably remember when an "A" was everyday transportation for a lot of folks!

Welcome to teh Forum - I have a '30 Cabriolet which was put on the road just this past spring. I'm located in New Hampshire but do go to Connecticut very often. Would love to stop by sometime - what town do you live in? If interested there is a club dedicted to the Cabriolet in Texas and would be hapy to give you the details if interested.

Welcome! I'm also working on a 29 Cabby along with a 28 RPU, 29 Business Coupe and a 69 Mustang Mach 1 my goal is to finish 1 a year! Do you know the build date of your Cabby?
