Last week i posted my overheating probloms. i double checked timing, tightend the fan belt, used all h20, and corrected the water level and it stiil ran hot. so i pulled the radiator and ran the garden hose through it from the bottom and could see the black flaky chunks run out. i repeatedly shook the thing vigorously and flushed it for 20 min or so. by golly that did the trick! now she runs too cool, goin off the motometer.... better than hot! thanks for the suggestions people, im a happy driver once again. Sam,
When I suggested that, I didn't elaborate. Sometime that can on occur on an anual basis! Break an old speaker magnet in half, and if you can get it laying in upper tank, it will help collect some of those chunks. Bill W. (Same type magnet dropped in gas tank will also help capture rust flakes migrating around) And ALWAYS, yes, ALWAYS, install the little standpipe filter in the top of your fuel valve. Rust flakes are then of no consequence and CAN'T PLUG UP YOUR FUEL VALVE! With the aid of the sediment bowl & the fine screen in the front of the carb, your carb. is protected from ANY sizeable chunks that could plug up the needle valve or any jets or passages in the carb. (Provided that your carb is super clean & free of rust & scale & NEVER paint the inside of the carb!) Never clean the carb screen unless carb is off the car so you can blow out any residue that is dislodged and could plug up crap IN the carb! If you find what looks like rust colored talcum powder in carb bowl, DON'T panic, it WON'T plug up anything! Bill W.
