Intermittant generator

The stock generator quit, although it did possibly work intermittently. I tried 2 other stock generators. One worked intermittently and one did not work at all. All 3 generators will "run like a motor" on the bench . I don't think it is a cutout problem as each generator its own cut out. I am thinking there must be an issue other than the generators. I don't see any loose or frayed wires. Anybody have any hints where to look?
 
I just went through four generators that all turned like a motor when power was applied.
The problem turned out to be the cutouts that weren't closing when the generator was working. I took the cover off one of the cutouts and slipped a wood sliver in to manually close the points and presto the amp meter showed a charge. The electro magnet in the cutouts weren't closing the gap. I found one in my collection that worked and now I have power coming from the generator. Only took a month.
