Interior

Well as I continue my mild restoration on my '37 pickup I'm looking for a place to get a complete interior. I ordered one from bob and drake but they didn't mention when I ordered everything was on back order 4 to 6 weeks (I'm sure that means more). Is that common that they have to wait for these parts to be made or is there somewhere that will be quicker.

I spoke with a local guy who recovered the seat when my grandfather did it he said he could do all of the interior in a few weeks. Except the headliner which he said I need to order, I'd like to have it prior so it will match nicely.

I think you will find that most companies, like LaBaron Bonney, don't keep an inventory of interiors. Best to place your order in advance of when you will need it. That was my experience with LB. They told me about how long it would take to make. When it did arrive I could understand why there is a wait as there was an lot of materials in several big boxes that could easily create an inventory storage problem and potential damage to the contents.

I've watched Lebaron Bonney's videos on the U-Tube and they have computer aided cutting machines and other equipment & tooling that makes manufacturing a pretty rapid process as long as they aren't backed up with orders. With that kind of equipment it goes together pretty fast and a person that's familiar with their sewing machine can stitch stuff together pretty quick too. Those clutch motor walking foot machines really go when you wind them up. I had to put a servo motor on mine when I first was learing to use it. It was the only way to slow the damn thing down.

Sorry but I live in N.C my mom and dad did UPHOLSTERY, for ever I started at 14 and now I am 52 no one around here wants to learn how SORRY

Timmy ray, Thank you for carrying the tradition of the upholstery trade as a profession that is so specialized, valuable and needed. What will probably happen is that over time newly arrived "legal" immigrants will take over the trade. About 25 years ago our local vocational school used to teach the trade, but it closed down as enrollment dwindled.

I ordered a '40 front seat kit from Lebaron Bonney. It took 3 weeks for them to cut and sew it up. It was right on time at 3 weeks.
