Interior trim screws

I recently purchased an interior trim screw kit from Mac's. Unfortunately, there is no instructions as to which screws go where. In the kit there are 5 different sizes, of which 3 sizes are sheet metal screws and 2 sizes are machine screws. Mac's in unable to help me with this. the manufacturer gave them no instructions either. The kit # is V80901H. My 46 six has been apart for 20 years and I'm not sure where all the screws go. Anyone out ther familiar with the kit and how the screws are applied?

Send it back and explain why. Buy one from someone that knows where the screws go. Call them first and tell them it is coming back and maybe they will get the manufacturer to supply instructions. If we put up with this we are part of the problem.

if you dont want to send it back, now is the time to use some patience and your smarts, the sheet metal screws go into sheet metal that has a hole that does not have any threads, like inside window mouldings, as to the length is where your smarts come into play, dont put a long sheet metal screw any where it will bottom out and put a dimple in the outside body work, machine screws are used where there are threads, like on door and window pull cranks, just check for length before tightening them, hole with no threads use sheet metal screws, holes that are threaded use machine screws

None of Mac's screw kits have instructions. I've bought them before, used the kit, and I'm left wondering where the left-over screws should have gone.

Agreed. But he should have checked the details section of the part online first before buying. Mac's website is pretty good about telling you exactly what comes in a kit.

Roy Nacewicz. (ph 313-383-2692) has all the hardware you need and can tell you what goes where.

None of the trim screw sets I have purchased come with instructions and I have bought them from a variety of V-8 vendors. It's a trial and error process, but a 46 uses mostly sheetmental screws in the garnish mouldings on the doors and around the windshield and quarter windows. You also use them with a trim washer on the door corner bottoms and the real long sheetmetal screws are to mount the inside rear view mirror. You almost always wind up with screws left over as the package has extras thrown in when they are bagged. Some of the kits also have the screws to mount the dash plastic trim. Those are pan head screws.

For my 39 pickup, I found that the Ford accessory booklets showed drawings in the detail to show the screw heads on the doors and leadliner. Also it showed a pickup option availabe with cab only and no back bed. This gave me the routing for the brake and gas line plus which way the gas tank inlet clamps went.

Thanks guys! Unfortunately, I've opened the pkg and had begun the trial and error method. I just want to be sure. I had contacted Mac's and they could not provide me with any instructions. I'll continue with the trial and error route, and as you say, use my smarts and have some fun! Thanks again.

Some good information mentioned abve. Also, concerning garnish molding screws, you can take a piece of small diameter wire (coat hanger or welding) and insert it into hole inplace of the screw to find out the absolute maximum depth. Mark the depth on the wire with masking tape or magic marker. Then choose screw that is slightly shorter, thus avoiding any body pierceing....Bob L

I buy the Auveco kits. Auveco sells all of the trim screws and minor fasteners for everything out there. The Green parts boxes. You'll have like 5 different diameters and 6 different lengths. I like to put a bit of never seize on the screw head. You guys in clubs should look into master kits of fasteners, you could save a few sheckles.
