interior cost

hmmm

LBB wanted more money for my side curtains than they wanted for an entire top which consumes way more material, special double row stitching, etc especially at their rate of 75 bucks per yard (must have gold threads in it).

I said no way and made my own. I can buy the material at the warehouse near me for 35 bucks a yard

I looked at this last year for my Roadster. One Shop wanted $2500 to do custom. another wanted about $2400 to do it including the LB Kit. We did it for less than $1000 using a LB Kit. I didn't think it was that easy especially since the seat back is permanently attached to the body, and we are pretty particular, but we were able to get it done, and would go that route again. I bought a 1/4" crown stapler from HF that did the job and that really made it easier.
Not being a stickler for guidelines we did have them make all our covers like the rumble seat with the 3" stitching and really like it.

I'd just like to chime in here a little too. I googled Green Mohair and brown Bedford cord and came up with some interesting things. First with the BBC (Brown Bedford Cord), a heck of a lot of khaki is made out of it. Calvin Klein, 501 and this surprised me, Carrhart. Anyone doing fabrication is familiar with the name Carrhart (sp) They make those super tough suits of fabric armor that will resist almost anything. Well they're made with Bedford Cord. So it's pretty common in the world of fabric and it's for sale at less than $20 a yard.
I also looked at green Mohair, the same thing, under $20 @ yd. BIG BUT!! The colors and possible patterns! You can't judge these things online! You must have a sample! (I believe they're called a Swatch) and match it to the original the same as paint. I estimate it would take at least 10 yds off a 54" roll.? (Fordor)
Now the next step in our bargain basement upholestry Job is the patterns. L-B worked out (or aquired) the patterns and they are right! I have never heard a complaint about L-B's (Or Cartouche's) patterns being wrong. Then, once cut, they have to be sewed, ACCURATELY!! No wandering with the stitching! Are we up to that? I'm not! L-Bs lookin better and better!
Terry.

When our club restored the Minnesota Highway Patrol 1930 Model A Coupe we used L/B upholstery, but we had to remove some of the fabric and trim some of the panels to the correct shape or size. This was the quarter panels between the door and rear window

Terry, unfortunately nothing could be further from the truth on both accounts. I think this is a scenario where if you know what the original panel boards or stitching is supposed to look like, you quickly realize how incorrect their patterna are. It is in the details, ....much like saying all Model-A Fordors are the same. When you know the differences between the Murray & Briggs manufactured bodies, ...one soon realizes they are different. To the unversed, they are the same. ;)

Remember when the "little" books were popular and you could go to Tijuana and for 100-150 get roll/pleat complete. Or am I dating myself??

Back in the day 1965-1967, I'm originally from Dallas,tx we would take off for Laredo, TX and you could get a 1962 and 55 chevy roll and pleated for $200.00 to 300.00 each. We learned from the car guys at home to take your material for stitch work with you for them to use instead of the horse hair they used. We never had any problem with the upholstery have fun modelAtony tony white Lafayette, LA

If you have a trade school near by that offers upholstery class you could take the class and do your own work or you could have the students do the work for you. I took an upholstery class back in the early eighty an enjoyed every minute of it.

Had exactly that same problem with a L/B kit when upholstering my 30 coupe.
