I just came into a 1932 21 stud v8 It is missing the intake, ignition, and starter. What other year intakes will fit this engine ..what is involved in installing the later crab style ignition. lastly what year starters will interchange ..

If your not worried about originallity, a later 221 intake for a two barrel can likely be made to fit the model 18 engine. The ignition/distributor depends on the timing cover for fit. I'd try a later timing cover on there and see if this will help adapt. If you want the later 1942 crab type then you may need an adapter from three bolt to two or the later timing cover. The starters for the model 18 would have to be at least similar to the later flathead starters since they changed very little over the years and are mostly interchangeable with each other.

One of the 1932 owners may be able to add more. I know those early model 18 engines had some strange stuff on them like the Detroit Lubricator carb and the different distributor housing & coil as well as the post style generator mounting but the later parts from 33 thru 37 should still fit the bolt patterns and possibly even later stuff up through the 59 era.

Intakes upto 59A will swap. If you have a 3 bolt timing cover, you'll need a 2 bolt cover and a cam nose button. 3 bolt goes with long nose cam, 2 bolt goes with short nose cam.
Starter swaps. With the intake, you'll need a matching pump and pushrod.
If it is a 1932 engine, and your not worried about original which it don't sound like, I think I'd swap the engine for a later ( better) flathead. You may find someone to swap who needs a real 1932 engine.
Martin.
