intake sealant

I make sure both mating surfaces are totally cleaned of old gasket material, and any previous sealants. Coat both sides of new gasket (I use Best Co.) with grease, and install gasket and intake. Then torque to spec., and re-torque a couple times after heat cycle.

Re-torque the intake manifold? I've never done that, only head gaskets.

Lawson, maybe it's OCD that causes me to want to go back and re-torque, lol 😆, but I find that any composite gaskets used on an engine that sees a lot of heat cycling tends to need re-torquing based on experience with my cars.

I have an old White 4 cyl tractor, hard start and would never idle.. Traced it for sure to an intake manifold leak with brake cleaner etc..... Running lean like crap. I had a can of vinyl color spray. At first I shot it at the intake manifold and the engine raced from the volatile components, but as I sprayed the engine idled and ran better, and better and better. I ran outa vinyl spray and went to some gray primer. Same thing. That was 4 years ago. Yes, the tractor has some overspray but it starts and idles like it was brand new on the show room floor. If it ever Idles poorly I will buy some vinyl spray or bedliner and give it a shot. The suction pulls it deep into the best place for it. All those clogged spray paint tips have taught me a thing or two.
