Intake manifold Question

I cannot remember for the life of me how this went back to gether. Motor is a 59A stock intake maniford. Does the tube go into the block, then manifold, then the fuel pump push rod? Pics would help but I cant seem to find any that show it??? Thanks

Hi WRA: As in most of my reassemblies I usually make a dry run for fitting by first placing my intake manifold in it's place, re-checking all bolt holes for proper alignment.when all is OK I remove and secure manifold gasket to block and secure manifold bolts in torquing sequence as per spec's. I always use a dash of white lithum grease on the base ends of my fuel pump push-rod.then instert it into it's location. After things have progressed I then check the fuel pump stand for fit without f/p attached.I'm at a loss as to the tube you describe in your post? but I can only hope this helps you with your project flattie.Good luck and please ask more question if needed.Bovar

First, the push rod, then there is a baffle tube, about 1 1/2" diameter, goes in on top of the gasket, then the fuel pump stand-a tube about 3/4 or 7/8" is on the bottom of that, light press fit in the stand... Make sure that the push rod is at the bottom of the travel and install fuel pump... Karl

Good advice above..
The pictures may be slightly misleading as they show the tubular part below the push rod, (unless it is some other part).
I do it in this order:
Manifold.
Pushrod.
Gasket.
Big tube part with flange - make sure it is centred.
Fuel pump stand with fuel pump already attached and tube pressed in underneath.

Notes:
Make sure the base of the fuel pump stand is flat, or at least as flat as you can get it.
I have found a good quality silicone sealer useful here, it helps a less than perfect pump stand seal. On my last build I deleted the gasket and just used silicone. This is my personal experience, your opinions may differ.

Mart.

Make sure the large baffel tube 1 1/2" diam goes in AFTER thegasket is sitting on the manifoldother wise the small flare on the top of the tube will not go up into the recess on the bottom of the pump stand. If done oposite it will surely leak and the stand bottom will warp even more than it is already. File it to get it flatter and the silicone is a good idea [thin coating both sides of the gasket] good luck. ken ct.

Does anybody have one of these tubes, It is missing on my engine a 37 V8. I also posted a want ad on the Swap site.
Thanks, Bill

If you put the baffle in under the gasket you will get a vacuum leak. I purchased an engine that the baffle was installed under the manifold and it took me quite a while to find the problem . I had a serious vacuum leak. Frank pkny
