Intake manifold needed

My friend was enjoying his 1936 convertible Sunday when he started to lose power and smoke coming from under the hood. He pulled off the highway and further inspection revealed that the bolt from the intake manifold that holds the generator had broken. This caused the generator to drop down and the fan to hit the radiator. He had to be hauled home. Any suggestions as to where to search for a replacement manifold? Thanks Stan. {manifold was aluminum}.

Start by getting a picture of the correct manifold to have with you when you go looking. I would think a "wanted" ad here would turn up something. It wouldn't hurt to include a picture in the ad.

Just the bolt? What damage did the manifold itself sustain?

Yikes that seems like a lot of strain to break such a big bolt. Though after 80yrs anything is possible. Seem like you have a few offers of help.

Am I missing something here? If it was the bolt that broke, you don't need a new manifold, you need a new bolt.

Spoke to my friend today and he told me that it was a piece of the manifold that broke. Sorry about the wrong info. I am forwarding to him the information posted by the above Barners. Thanks to those who responded. Stan.

I have an aluminum 2brl intake that was pulled off of a engine in a 34 coupe in 1952,but has what looks like a1937 casting number under the bottom that I will sell.

The height of the stud above the block varies considerably between various years, so check that against the manifold that broke. A change in height there will at least require a different belt, but might even lead to a fan clearance problem. From memory, I think '37 is at the low end of the spectrum and '36 high, but the main point here is to match what worked and not risk a problem at assembly.

Can those manifolds be welded reliably? I had one that had cracked back near the fuel pump stand, had been welded, and looked like a solid repair. I'm assuming on this one, the generator mount wasn't squarely in the groove when the nut was tightened?

Sold two 36 aluminum intakes on ePay in the past two weeks. They go for about $30-$40 plus shipping. I'm out now.

It's really hard to believe they are selling so cheap, given their scarcity.

I was thinking they would go for around $75.

These are the parts that have survived in good numbers and they are inter changeable in lots of years. (not sure if that's inter or inner) .
