Insurance............thumbs down JCTaylor

I've had JCT for years, with no problems, until recently! I had called JCT to cancel my pickup insurance because I had passed my A pickup on to my son. I was told it had to be in writing and that an e-mail would do, so I sent an e-mail to JCT. I called again after not receiving a new renewal form for my speedster (only), and was assured I would get one in the mail, that hasn't happened either. After almost 2 weeks had passed, I re-sent the e-mail. 2 days later I did receive a reply, saying they had no record of cancellation. I replied today, and have my fingers crossed.

Yesterday I received a follow-up e-mail and everything seems to be working out nicely.

They weren't sold, they went public (last year). The Hagerty family retains majority ownership. They got $700m+ by issuing stock to big investors and allowing stock to be sold on exchanges.

So, can we hope there won't be any major changes for customers? I was all set to call them for my cars when this happened.

I've never had any issues adding cars or trailers to my Hagerty policy...

Ditto me with Hagerty. Only minor issue I had with Hagerty is that on the new-to-me 31 last week they wanted to see a picture of the car in the garage/shop I will store it. So I had to drive it from home without insurance to put it in the shop. Full coverage to $25K. Both of the customer service reps I spoke with were top notch, courteous, phone connection was good, and it did not sound like they had been recruited off the streets somewhere in another country.

Hagerty was also real good about removing collision and liability from my 30 when I started tearing it down and it went non-op. I tried the same thing with an old motorcycle that I had insured through State Farm and got all sorts of static - they wanted me to up the liability limits on my homeowner's insurance to cover the comprehensive on the bike (???) even though I have a blanket liability umbrella for way more than they wanted, and automobiles are specifically excluded from homeowner's policies. Just another attempt to screw the customer, so bye-bye State Farm.

Good thing Hagerty didn't require a photo of my 30 before I tore it apart. Looked even sketchier than Ronn's pickup- darned 90 year old paint!

My understanding is that it was a financial maneuver to take advantage of a surge of private investor money that moved into SPACs in 2021. Hagerty was looking for an infusion of money to help them with strategic purchases and the investors wanted to buy. Since the Hagerty family retains control, I don't see there being any changes in the company other than what they were already planning to do.

Thanks for your answer. I hope they will be at Hershey this fall. :)

I used to have J.C.Taylor, and had used them for probably 25-30 years before having the need to file a claim. Regrettably their response was one that was an extreme disappointment! As a result, I changed over to Hagerty and have been very pleased with them. No comparison in the professionalism or with claims. There was a lady that rear-ended us several years back as we pulled out from an intersection. Hagerty's response was phenomenal - fully covered - painter/body shop of my choice, no question about replacement bumper or bumper extension and trunk rack, etc. They even called me to check on the progress as work proceeded. Outstanding - certainly no comparison with J.C. Taylor. My best wishes to anyone with J.C. Taylor who has a claim - I'm afraid that they will need it.
