Can anyone tell me the correct year for the following Model A Instrument Panels. The refurbished panel is currently in my 1930 Model A Pickup. The other panel was given to me for my pickup.

Thanks Wes

Your gas tank will only accept the correct panel, which each is (mid 1930-1931). The one in the truck may be a reproduction, but I'm not experienced enough to tell the difference in the picture.

Thanks for your quick reply. The unfurbished panel is manufactored by North East Appl. Corp. I was thinking of swaping them if the panel given to me is more original to the truck.

They both are actually later 1931 pieces, going by the lines around the ribbing. They will fit any round speedometer car or truck but that line didn't appear until April '31 or so.

I am pretty sure the amp meter on the one in the truck is not correct. The lettering on original ones was not bright white, they were more of a gray/sort of silver color and the "ford" script was only on the early 28's

Thanks for the information provided. I am learning plenty. The panel in the truck I believe is a Stewart Warner. The difference I can see is that the window showing the speedometer is wider on the panel in the truck, I can clearly see the 80 mph reading when on 0 MPH. For the other panel, I can bareley see the 80 mph when also reading 0 MPH. Thanks

I kinda agree with Mitch. The one given to you is a nice original, the one in the truck appears to be a repo. One way to tell the repo from original quickly is the repo screws do not fit in the recesses too good and the repo is considerably lighter and cheaper made.

I forgot to mention that the backside of the panel given to me is painted black. I don't know if the back on the originals were painted black. I think the one given to me is an original also except for the amperes meter, it does not look like an 80 year piece.

I removed one of the repo screws from the truck panel and discovered that they fit the panel given to me much better in that the screw is further recessed in the panel hole. Thanks for your replies.

Don,

Exactly what I was planning on doing now that I am certain that the panel is an original. I am going to use the panel given to me and use the speedometer in the truck (Stewart Warner) that has been remanfactored. Thanks for the info.

Wes

You probably will find the screws fit the dash better since the bolt pattern is correct. The repo's are very ill fitting and the pattern is off. The original panels were not painted on the back but it won't hurt anything. The recesses on the front were painted black.
