Installing the covering over a visor

I tried to install the covering over the sunvisor of my 28 special coupe some time back. I wasn't a pleasant experience, it didn't work out at all and I had to strip the covering off. The Weldwood contact cement soaked through the material in a few spots and I had some wrinkles I couldn't get out in the corners. I have since used 3M 77 spray adhesive on a a few things, like the top on my 28 special coupe and it worked quite well. I am wondering if using the 3M spray as an adhesive for the visor material would be a better way to apply the adhesive? I would appreciate any advice from anyone that has had a better experience than me on installing the cover on their visor. Any helpful tips?

Rusty, I installed a cover on a 29 Tudor last year and had very good results using the 3M spray adhesive. Tom

I also tried contact cement and had major problems with wrinkles. After peeling it all off I made the observation that the "Kit" don't fit! There was too much material at the sides and too little underneath. My bride took a look at the problem and asked to take a stab at making a proper fitting one. Why not? So I made paper patterns off the visor and she sewed up a new piece with long grain roofing material. She included a welt along the edge for a "finished" look and I must admit it looks great! But the best was yet to come. I switched up to the 3-M adhesive, just applying a bit as I went along after the visor was in stalled into the cover, and this work like a charm. The 3-m stuff does not attack the cover material like contact cement and so far its hold well in all types of weather.
Cheers! Rusty!
