installing Strobe in Brake light circuit

GS-100A on Amazon, $8 for 2 controllers works on 6V-30V. It looks like it wires in series with LED brake light. This will not work with incandescent lamps.

I tried one on these on the bench. Looked like it was going to work one time. then it would not work again. used with incandescent bulbs.. maybe that was the problem Problem fried it. Will order a new unit.
Thanks
Frank

Do you have a link, all the ones I see say 12-30 volts.

I ran strobes in the brake light circuits on my touring motorcycles for years. I’m convinced they add tremendously to conspicuity (dang, look at those long words!). Since in a Model A you split the brake light wires to add in turn signals, I’d have to really look at the strobe electronics to make sure they don’t interfere.

Are flashing brake lights legal ? I was following my son and he had installed flashing brake lights, the first time I slammed my brakes on, I couldn’t get use to them , as a following vehicle I wasn’t impressed, add turn signals and my brain was confused. I’ve read that some moderns have the flashing third brake light, I suppose that they are legal ?

I have my flashing brake light on my third brake light only. If wired that way it shouldn’t interfere with the turn signals. My turn signals are on a separate circuit

I’m pretty sure the first time I saw flashing brake lights was on a police motorcycle years ago so I assume they are legal??

This is also a point of discussion in the motorcycle touring community. Consensus seems to be that if your strobe is set to flash a couple of times then go solid (such as the Signal Dynamics BackOFF XP, search for it) you will be fine. I like Y-B’s idea of doing only the third light. That’s the way I always set mine up on the bike.

OK, I bought the GS-100A. Of course, it comes with no instructions whatsoever. How do I wire it?

6 volt, positive ground. I have a Brakelighter LED third brake light which is wired directly to the brake light switch, with a separate ground wire run directly to the frame. No turn signals connected to the Brakelighter.

The 100A is the size of an old double-edge razor blade package. One end is marked "V in" and has a red and a black wire coming out of that end. The other end is marked "Out" and has a red and a black wire coming out of that end. So a red and a black wire on each end for a total of four wires.

Any ideas on how to wire this? Anybody actually wired one up that works? I don't want to experiment and fry this thing.

W. Michael

Is yours the same as the one in the picture?

My guess is for positive ground, red to the frame side of the circuit, and black to the LED's. V-in still goes to the battery side and out goes to the lights.

Regards
Bill

Thanks, Bill, but make it simpler for my simple mind. Yes, that looks the same as my unit. BOTH red wires to ground? So the red on the output end doesn't really go to the light--it goes to the ground? I can't really understand why there are two ground wires. That could be handled inside the unit. I can just tie the two red wires together and run them to ground?

Electronics like a good ground path ! If you relying on ground path through body parts it could be iffy. If the light or lights already have a long lead why not just connect them to your controller. The controller looks like it was designed to be spiced in a modern wiring harness.
