Installing stock starter on rebuilt engine

Shall I grease the starter pinion gear/flywheel teeth before I assemble or should they be left dry. Given the comments on a thread from 2016, the grease may interfere with the movement of the Bendix. I also am concerned that the grease may get to the flywheel/brake pressure plate interface.
Any recommendations/caveats?

thx

I put a little graphite powder on the shaft so that bendix had good action. I don’t think grease or oil is recommended.

I always put a little assembly lube on the shaft. I say a little , work the gear back & forth
wipe excess with paper towel. To each his own I guess - I never had a problem

Centrifugal force will generally fling anything a person puts on there pretty quickly. Dry lube on a Bendix can help some. There are several moly spray lubes available.
