Installing floor mat stud

I have question about installing the front floor mat studs (2) that hold the floor mat from sliding down. I am attaching a picture for reference that shows the stud at the top end of the subrail extension (angled part). These were originally peened over before the subrail extension was riveted in place, I would assume. My subrails are installed without any studs in the holes. I know they make these replacement studs like the originals that are peened like semi-tubular rivets. They are also available with a machine screw end with a retaining nut. It would appear that to replace the stud, you would need to use the stud with the threaded end on it. My question is: How could the nut be installed and tightened in such a confined space under the subrail? Has anyone installed these two studs at the top of the subrail extensions that can explain how they installed them? Thanks for any help.

Rusty,

I thought it was a photo of my junk! Seriously, is it time for a NEW tool? I will look
at the ones I have at home and see if I come up with something. Maybe like a
Nut-sert installing tool type of thing.
