Install Fan Belt

having a problem installing the belt on my 28. The generator is on but the belt does not want to go on the fan pulley. The belt is the 43 inch old stock. No room to take the belt off around the fan blade, bends the fins .
Need some ideas.

This may be a stupid question, but did you loosen up the bolt/nut where the generator mounts so that it can be moved towards the engine to allow the belt to be put on?

Put the fan on the pulley for the fan/water pump first. You can just install it one fan blade at a time while you rotate the fan.

When I used a belt that long, it rubbed the bottom radiator hose just behind the rad outlet. That was no doubt partly due to the fact that I was running an alternator with its smaller pulley.

You have to loosen the generator mount, push generator towards engine. I believe the bolt is 3/4”, need a socket extension and a 3/4” wrench.

I had to go to a shorter belt with my alternator. I use a toothed BX40.

Not all v-belts of the same part number are the same length, when changing belt on HVAC units with multiple belts we had too order matched belt sets.

Bruce of MN - I’ve never seen a tool like that. Very clever! They also list an Emergency Long Reach Tool Kit for $67.05 to help you get into a locked vehicle. Back in Queens I used a wire coat hanger for $0.00.
