How can I tell the difference between 18-12116
1932-Early ’36 V8 (2​

required)

and

68-12116​

Late ’36 & 1937-41

No marking or part numbers on any of the caps I have

On older 18- caps the post diam.was very lrg. on 68- posts were very skinny also the spacing was diff../ New repops i have seen the posts on both are fat and same size but the spacing is still diff as nos.Someone just had a post up here with the diamentions of spacing. dont remember who. ken ct usa.
 
there is a big diference in the diameter of the brass conductors, the 18- has much larger diameter and the 68 is smaller.
 
They are more or less 90 degrees off in the postioning of the contacts, as well as the slight difference in diameter of the brass contacts. We put this image up on our website's parts prices so people can see the actual differences before they buy:
