Inlet manifold query 8RT

Have just taken delivery of a 38 Barrel Nose. Another must have Flathead.
Just noted on 8RT flathead engine as fitted to 38 Barrel Nose the following,
Fwd end LH side of the inlet manifold there is a rubber bung connection with a braided copper pipe connected. The end of which is open.
This would be used for brake booster?
This open pipe would then be the cause of a high pitched squeal , ie an air leak. have now closed off the end of the pipe.
Confirmation or suggests would be appreciated.

If the rubber bung is in front of the oil filler pipe, the hole would've been for the road draught tube originally. It would appear that a previous owner has installed a Positive Crankcase Ventilation system at some time.
Cheers, Neil.

Neil,
Yes the rubber bung is in front of the oil filler pipe. So this tube out of this connection should not be closed off? It should be left open is this right.
Thanks,
Phil

That hole is 1-1/4 dia. originaly there was a steel pipe in that hole that curved down the front of the engine and along the left side of the oil pan. It's a road draft tube. Otherwise know as a breather pipe. Air comes in under the oil filler cap and down through the engine and out the breather tube. A lot of time we install a rubber plug in that hole with a hole in the middle where we insert a PCV valve and plum it into the intake manifold. Some of the stock intake manifolds have plug in the manifold just below the rear of the carb. Good place run the pcv hose. Walt

Thanks for clarification. A breather that should not be closed.
Many thanks for all supplied info. A little more useful knowledge gained from helpful people.
