Information Requested - Spring Accessory

I have what I believe to be a KW accessory spring perch & spring set-up on my 1915. Any information on this item would be appreciated as well as a source for 2 of the coil springs. Spring.jpg

Are you sure those you have are K&W brand?

Here is a pic of set of KW's, they were well made.

The other photo is an accessory front shock coil spring type (for above axle wishbone ) sure seems like yours, but don't know the brand.

This design is lacking some, as the two piece perch with rivet can be subject to wobble when worn after 80 years. Loss of axle pitch, (which is built into the Ford spring perch) of the needed 5 1/2 degree backwards tilt can create steering issues.

Tmodelman; no, I can see now mine are not the KW that i was led to believe. they are as your first pic. mine are nice and tight, fairly good shape. until I can find the correct spring perches I will use these. can't really see what they were designed to do .... snake oil??

You are right to find correct Ford forged one-piece perches for your early T with over -the -axle style wishbone, and remove those front shocks.

Ford made the change to place the wishbone under the axle to help prevent loss of axle tilt that can cause loss of control of the steering. Henry was reluctant to make changes, so when he did, it was for a real reason.

The Ford is forged from Vanadium steel and is very stout, and low. I don't own a T with over- the- axle wishbone, if I did there would be an accessory wishbone re-inforcement brace added to keep the front axle stable.

That no-name accessory spring shock absorber is now nearly 100 years old, with mat'l unknown, not forged strong steel as the Ford part. The part has a much higher moment arm subject to a lot of stress. That perch is two piece, and a of type shock by design that can suffer breakage.

Excellent information! I also have the extra radius rod supports on. I have the same set-up on the rear .... so need to find those perches as well.
