Information Needed on F6

Yesterday my husband and I bought a 1950 F6. He has more knowledge if the truck than I do, but I want to learn more on my own. So can you all help me find out where can I get information on it? I am looking for how many were made, photos of what they looked like, what the interior looked like, where parts can be obtained, etc...She is in good shape for her age, almost not cancer (maybe two or three spots), only a few dents, bed was rotted do got rid of it - didn't want it blowing away on the 500 mile drive home. And the interior is completely gone due to rodents. Will attach pics later if requested.

WOW,,,,that's a big order. One approach would be to get a factory shop manual that covers that year model. They are available through on line sellers, ebay, amazon, alibris, etc. , both original or as reprints." MOTOR's" general truck repair manuals also cover your truck.
If you are planning a 500 mile trip home I hope there is a route on the "skinny" roads to go, as 50 mph for a long period would be a hard strain, given the way it is probably geared.
Others will give you plenty to think about, I'm sure,,,,GOOD LUCK,,and WELCOME

ive read that post 3 times, and it doesnt seem like a woman wrote it, some of the descriptive terms sound like they are coming from a guy, i think some one is having a little fun with us, but then again , maybe not

You need a shop manual and operator's manual, both available on ebay.
There is no record available of how many were made. Ford burned the records in 1967 from what I understand.
If you type in 1948 49 50 F6 in an ebay search you'll find pictures of what they looked like new. I have a 48 F6 and a 52 F6.
The cabs are the same F1 thru F6 and most parts suppliers list only F1's. Big truck shops in your area can supply parts, NAPA is good too. Joblot Automotive in NY has big truck parts.
Have fun with it.

Tim, the cabs are the same for all models, F-1 to F-8.

The Ford barn is a great place for information for flathead but the best place for old Ford trucks is the Ford Truck Enthusiasts' site's '48-60 Ford truck discussion board.

As mentioned above many parts are interchangeable between the different models:

There are many places on the internet that sell parts for these Ford trucks, Tim mentioned the best places to find parts specifically for the larger trucks but Dennis Carpenter makes most of the interior piece you'll need.

Many places sell Carpenter parts, there should be a seller located in your state.

One more thing you and your husband have to be aware is the wheels. If your truck has stock wheels they'll be what are referred to as Widow Makers. Please read this:

Sorry I am not having fun with you. My husband and I own an automotive repair and towing shop in Northern NM. He has been turning wrenches for 15 years, and I have been helping out now and then for the past 6.

Thank you for the information and the links to look at. I am sure I'll be back with more questions if you don't mind.

Diane

Here are a couple of pics. She needs some TLC since she has sat since '84.

Hi Diane, welcome to the world of old trucks. Last month I hauled home a 50 F4 that still wears 1965 Wyoming license plates. It joined the 48 and 52 F6's, a 52 F2 and my daily driver 48 F1. It's a sickness, but I'm not looking for a cure yet!

I'd say you've got a great project there and it sounds like it's in about the same shape that everybody starts with.

If you'd like more info about your truck, shoot me an email with the serial number and any stampings on the firewall and I can decipher it for you. mtflat@hotmail.com

Bob, you'll be happy to know that I finally got going on those wheels I bought from you - they're at the shop for sand blasting and powder coating. I'll use them on the F4 since I can swap them to one of the F6's if needed.

From the pictures I can confirm that your wheels are the widowmaker style. The technical term for them is Firestone RH-5°. Please read Bob's web page about them, and do a Google search of the technical name. Here are pictures of the design so you can see this for yourself. They should be replaced. Stu
